About coach Amir

My teaching and skating carrier.

I was born in 1970 in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (Georgia, Tbilisi). In 1976 after passing preliminary pre-qualification, my sister Leila and I were admitted to the Figure Skating School of Olympic Reserve in Tbilisi. I became champion of the Georgian Republic in the Intermediate and Novice levels.
In 1986, I started skating in pair skating in Tashkent. In 1987, two-time Olympic and seven times world champion Alexander G. Zaitsev invited me to skate in Moscow. Under his supervision, we competed at USSR National and International competitions.
From 1988-1990, I served in the ranks of the USSR Ministry of Internal Affairs.
In 1991, I was invited to teach in Baku, Azerbaijan. During 1991-1993, I was the sole consultant in the Ministry of the Sport in the Azerbaijan republic. My leadership helped to create a school of hockey and figure skating. In 1993, I founded the Azerbaijan Figure Skating Federation, where I was serving as vice-president.
I graduated from the Azerbaijan Institute of Physical Culture with Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education. My minor was a Figure Skating Coach.
From 1994-1997, I was teaching in Istanbul, Turkey.
In 1997, I moved to the United States and started teaching in Johnstown, PA. From 1997-2004, I prepared two times South Atlantic Champion, in intermediate and junior levels. In 2000 my student Lauren Thomas competed in the US Junior championship at an intermediate level. She got seven the place.
In 2002, Lauren Thomas became a silver medalist in South Atlantic, silver in Eastern Sectionals, and placed 3 rd in freestyle program in the United States Figure Skating Championships Junior level. Overall 5th placement allowed her to become a member of the United States National Team and compete in Junior Grand Prix at Courchevel France. I was recognized by USFS and became US National Team Coach.
Simultaneously with my coaching carrier, I was studying Public Relations at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. In 2005, I graduated from IUP with a Master's Degree in Public Affairs.
From 2004 until the present, I am teaching in Eastern Maryland. My students compete from pre-preliminary – senior level.
My goal is to create a World-class skater. However, I enjoy it when my students improve and accomplish their goals.
